Private Voice Instruction
BRIEF TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Over the course of the past fifteen years, I have taught voice students of varying levels from elementary age to adult, in a wide range of musical styles from jazz to Broadway to sacred literature to opera. I firmly believe that establishing a healthy technique built on optimizing each of the steps of the voice process (breath, phonation, registration, resonance, and articulation) allows a performer to span a variety of styles and enjoy maximum enjoyment of singing. I have focused my energy on continually deepening my knowledge in the areas of voice pedagogy, repertoire, and instructional techniques to meet the ever-evolving goals of the students I teach. I believe that valuable lessons about expression through song can be learned even at the young elementary age, although the direction of instruction changes several times as physical and emotional maturity progresses. I am also deeply committed to helping students especially of the middle school and high school levels prepare for college/conservatory/university voice study, and I have had students recently admitted to such institutions as the Cleveland Institute Of Music, Oberlin College, St. Olaf College and Pacific Lutheran University. I have also taught university-level students as an adjunct instructor at Belmont University, Lipscomb University, Seattle Pacific University, the University Of Puget Sound and Tacoma Community College, and regularly work with both avocational and professional adult clients. I see great benefit in voice study in all levels, from elementary to adult, and I would love to have the opportunity to help YOU along your journey! My aim is always to share my own passion for singing and how it has so positively influenced my life. Every student is unique, and I strive to help each one meet their goals and truly enjoy using their voice as a means of expression.
I am presently accepting students in-person in the Nashville, TN area and worldwide via Zoom. I am available both for ongoing month-to-month lessons and for audition/concert/competition preparation, where a student will typically take 4-5 lessons in preparation for the event. Please contact me for current rates and to schedule your consultation. I look forward to hearing from you! (updated 5/2023)
